One of the boys (he looked like he was 10 or 11) sat next to me on the flight. It was fun to help him figure out how to play the cartoon he wanted to watch and how to turn on the light so he could read, even though we didn't speak the same language. He fell asleep on my shoulder for a while (I only noticed because I woke up before he did!).
One of the more unexpected things from this flight is how often people spoke to me in German first. I noticed that they spoke in English to other Americans, but when they got to me, it was German. I understood from the context (like one of the singing boys asked me if I played the violin, but he was pointing at it and clearly asking a question, so it was easy to figure out!), but I answered in English, since I don't speak German. :)
