This year will probably be my other New Year's Eve memory. I was invited to join the other Americans on my team who were in Sofia and a group of Bulgarian friends. One of our hosts, Petko, took the picture to the right. It was fun to get to know some of my friends better and to meet some new friends.
When it was about 2 minutes before midnight, we all went out onto the balcony to watch the fireworks. It was so cold, that when one of my friends accidentally spilled a little water, it turned to ice before it hit the ground! The fireworks were incredible. Everywhere you looked, they were lighting up the sky. If you've never watched fireworks from the 14th floor of a building, I recommend it!
When we came back inside, we ended up dancing a horo (хоро), a line-dance like national dance. My roommate was teaching one of the other American girls some of the steps and suddenly everyone was grabbing each other's hands and we went dancing around the flat. It was a great way to warm up after being out in the cold!
